Missa est, formula itidem in Eccl adkhibita, quâ dimittebatur populus; missa enim (quae vox circa finem tertii Sec. priimium audita est) quasi missio: uti remissa, pro remissio, sequiori aevo dici coepit. Erat autem dimissio haec duplex, cum Catechumenorum, qui circa septum Templi, quo Fideles sedes fuas capiebant, consistere solebant, ante Sacramenti communionem: tum Fidelium (ita enim eos vocare mos erat, qui recepto Baptismo iam Eccl. cives censebantur) post illam peractam. Alcunus de div. Offic. Finitis omnibus adstanti et observanti populi absolutio datur, mclamante Diacono, Ite, missa est. A qua sollenni voce, cum cultus universus, tum praecipud S. Eucharistia, et preces, ac liturgia eius, Missae nomen accepêrunt, quo quid hodie intelligatur, in Eccl. Rom notum est; ubi quando formula ista pronuntietur, quando omittatur, vide Dom. Macrum supra laudatum in Hierol. Apud eund. Ite in Pace, πορεύεςθε εν ἑιρήνῃ, similis formula, in antiquis Liturgiis Graecis occurrens.
